Setting goals is not a new idea but it’s easy to get caught up in the complexity and particulars of goal setting — some times hindering performance and lowering productivity. The key here is to give goals a directional system that has them working in concert with each other. As a pattern recognition system, our brains take in information, find connections with prior experience, and then filter those results through actions on what to do next. As an “expensive” use of energy, the more we alleviate this prediction system with clarity, precision and direction — the faster we’ll reach our goals!

<aside> 💡 If your MTP is (for example) “Discover sustainable ways to end world hunger” — then examples of HHGs to support that would be “Get a degree in nutrition” or “Create a nonprofit that uses insect-based protein to feed people more sustainably” or “Write a book on easily accessible alternative protein.” HHGs are key sub-steps that help you accomplish these larger missions. They are named thus because they are tough and difficult to climb — make it challenging but attainable within 3 - 5 years.
